President Jim Moody opened our February Meeting, the minuets of the January Meeting were read, a motion to approve was made and seconded. The January Minutes were approved.
Allan Konstan reported on “Magic by the Bay” held in Tampa. Alan stated the Dealers were excellent, the Shows good, however he seem to think the schedule was tight and jammed, the others who attended agreed. Jim Moody informed the club that the newspaper article written by Ms. Carter, a Sentinel Reporter, who attended our January Meeting would appear in the Lake County Section of the Orlando Sentinel on Feb 24th or 25th. We hope everyone will get a look at it.
It was announced that Ring 170 of Orlando would conduct their annual Flea Market on April 22nd. Place and Time to follow, we will keep you up to date. Those who attended last year felt it was well worth it. You will have a chance to buy new magic and sell things collecting dust in your collection.
The question of nametags was presented. Jim Moody showed the group one type available. No decision was made and this is still an open issue.
The I.B.M. Convention in Miami was again discussed and the possibility of rending a bus for the group to travel to Miami aboard was also presented. Ring 170 Orlando has shown some interest in sharing a bus with us. Anyone interested in pursuing the details and sharing them with the group is encouraged to do so, contact Jim Moody with the information.
Club Shirts were discussed and no interest was shown. Jim Moody will be purchasing one for himself and anyone who would like one should contact Jim. Shirts are totally up to the individual.
The subject of Lectures, when, where and who pays was presented. A motion was made that they be held on none meetings nights and everyone who attends pay a lecture fee.Guest attending the Lectures was brought up and the fact that Ring 170 allows anyone with the price of admission to attend was discussed. Some feel guest should not attend and others feel they should. Still an open issue.
Donald Pierson was present a Magic Wand from the Lake County Magic Association by President Jim Moody. Donald is our youngest member and is making great strides in his pursuit of Magic. He has preformed in many shows and his repertory is growing every month. We all wish Donald many years of success with his new wand and magic career.
The contract for Lake County Magic Association’s Magic Show in the Villages has been signed and the Show will take place on the 19th of April. Two 90-minute shows will be presented that night. Each show will be 40 minutes with a 10-minute intermission and 40 minutes following it. Through the efforts of Lenn Lamoureux we will have a pre-show performance on April 5th.This will be a full dress rehearsal and will give everyone involved in the show and opportunity get their timing, music and props in sink with the others in the show.Any questions should be directed to the Show Committee.Next week tickets will go on sale. The price is $12.00 for Village Residents and $14.00 to all others. Each person performing in the show or working it will be given one complimentary ticket. Only 4 tickets per-person will be sold. Sound and Camera equipment has been assigned along with the technicians to operate them. Each performer is responsible for their own microphone and establishing connection with the Sound Technician. There will a three-camera shoot of the show this should provide excellent coverage.
The position of the LCMA and taxes is still not clear. Jarvis Howell is looking into it along with the help of George Smallwood. They will keep the LCMA posted on their findings.
Donald Pierson won our 50/50 and George Smallwood successful answered the Trivia Question.
SHOW TIME:Our theme for this months meeting was “MONEY MAGIC”.
Bill Macchi confused everyone with his slick handling of a bill transition. He showed a one-dollar and a five-dollar bill. Each time he handed his assistant a one-dollar bill it changed into a five-dollar bill right in the assistant’s hand. Great job Bill.
Bill Baker was next up and he kept everyone wondering as he kept changing a penny into a dime and the dime back into a penny right in the hand of an assistant. Smooth Bill.
Magic Ian surprised everyone by taking a half dollar and making is go right through the table. We could hear it as the coin as it left his hand on top of the table and then appeared in his hand under the table. Solid through solid, is that possible? Ian did it!
Allan Konstan gave us a short history lesson about Abe Lincoln, while producing and vanishing three large pennies in and out of a Top Hat. Thanks, Allan.
George Smallwood shared his confusion with us when he started with six dollars and no matter how much he spend or gave away he sill had six dollars. We would all like to have George as our Banker.
Even though he is too young to drink, Donald Pierson delighted everyone with his “Scotch and Soda” routine. He ended it by producing a Mexican Coin in an envelope. Way to go Donald.
Jim Moody closed the evening with a non-stop bombardment of funny patter along with turning a dollar into a four corned bill and back. He then proceeded to change a silver dollar into a penny and that penny into a very large penny. When he went to entertain us with some verse his book burst into flames. Tricky Jim.
For those of you who could not make our February Meeting we missed you. Don’t forget the March Meeting, on March the 23rd at 7PM. The Meeting theme will be PACKET TRICKS, BUSINESS CARD TRICKS, ESP ROUTINES AND PLAYING CARDS. See you on the 23rd.
