If you missed the meeting you missed some delicious pizza that was provided compliments of the Lake County Magic Association.
Guests at the August Meeting:
Michael Jewell and son Lucas. Michael works with Nursing Homes; he entertains the folks with dogs and would like to incorporate some magic along with it.

We hope Michael, Lucas and Gary will consider becoming a regular part of the club and wish them good luck with efforts to help people.

Jim Moody discussed the subject of a club historian…it will be held over until the next meeting.
Club Charity:
A Club Charity was again discussed and a committee was selected to look into the different possibilities. The committee members are George Smallwood, Roger Reid and Lee Langer. Anyone having suggestions or recommendation for a Club Charity, please contact one of the committee members or bring your suggestions to the next meeting.
IBM Convention:
Those who attended reported on the IBM Convention in Miami. The consensus of opinion was that it was poorly presented and structured with a lot of dead time. The Contests were good, however, the shows seemed to only have one top performance each. Better luck next time IBM.
Incorporation:
Jim Moody announced that the Lake County Magic Association is, as of 7/3/06, incorporated in the State of Florida. A big THANK YOU to George Smallwood and Roger Reid who work so hard making this happen.

The Village Show for 2007 and a Headliner was discussed. Suggestions included Fred Becker and Jim Chantier. Anyone who has a suggestion for a Headliner please contact Jim Moody. Dan Tong was announced as the lecturer for our September 28th Meeting. Those who saw Dan at the Ring 170 Auction said he is very skilled and funny. Don’t miss Dan Tong on September 28th.

A nonprofit request form has been sent to the IRS for filing.
Magic Week in Leesburg:

Magic Week Shows:
On October 28th during Magic Week the club will perform at the monthly Farmers Market. Anyone who would like to perform, please contact Jim Moody. This is a great change for the club to get a great deal of good publicity. The Farmers Market has a great stage area and it lends itself well to the performance of magic. The Farmers Market is form 10AM to 1PM. So…get ready and call Jim!

Trivia:
This month’s trivia winner is Richard Hewitt.
It’s Show Time – Theme Bag Magic
Emcee for the night’s festivities was none other than the World Renowned Magic Ian who glibly introduced our eight entertainers for the evening.
Richard Hewitt had three assistants help him. They each selected one of the four paper bags with red, yellow, blue and green dots with each bag having a different color dot on it.
They selected the bags via a card selection. The remaining card was left for Richard as his selection. Each of the three assistants in turn crushed their bag leaving only one bag for Richard to crush. Richard hesitated and ripped open his bag and revealed a broken bottle.
Risky trick!
Next up was Jarvis Howell. He shared “The Sheet From the Fifth Dimension” with us. It was a configuration of a flat sheet of paper he folded that seemed impossible. He even sold two copies of the routine. It just proves there is a customer for everything.
George Smallwood performed a great “Woogie”, after having an assistant select one of six cards; the cards were placed in a paper bag. After a magic word or two George retrieved the cards and lo and behold there were only five cards, and the card the assistant had selected was gone. George completed the routine by tearing the bag apart revealing the inside empty. Tricky George.
Reynolds Hanson our clubs youngest member had an egg appear from a black silk… he called it his Easter egg. After having it appear he made the egg float as a climax to the routine. Way to go, Reynolds.
Magic Ian our MC for the night did a great “Professor’s Nightmare” along with a “Linking Rope” routine.
The innovative Chris Dunn had a paper bag with a Coloring Book and a Puppet Clown and some Crayons. Somehow he made the puppet color all the pages of the coloring book, after he had dumped the crayons into the bag along with the book and the puppet.
When he removed the puppet from the bag, the colored pages of the book became blank.
He concluded by dumping all the crayons out onto the table. Good Job Chris.
Jim Moody did a “Change Bag” routine with the end result being large silk with “Thank You” on it. Jim could never get the silk to read correctly even trying it several times and turning it every which way.
He then made a Coke Bottle vanish in a paper bag.
George Shield did a diminishing box routine with a penny the end result being a penny in a cloth bag. It was Bag Night you know. George is the newest member of Ring 258 we are looking forward to seeing many of his routines.
Roger Reid close the night magic with a “Change Bag” routine into a “Color Changing Silks” routine. He then had an assistant hold a ball as he draped a silk over it he then made the ball disappear. Roger then took two pieces of rope and put them into a bag asking the audience if they would like him to make it come out tied and of course everyone said yes. When Roger removed the rope a box of Tide was in the middle. Great comedy Roger. Roger then made a silver dollar appear and disappear in a bag. He finished with a smooth Blendo routine.
After a tremendous round of applause for all of the night’s magicians, Jim Moody closed our July meeting.
