January Ring Report

Our January meeting began with the introduction, by returning President Jim Moody, of the

Ring 258 Officers elected for 2008: President Jim Moody, Vice President Magic Ian, Secretary

Roger Reid, Treasurer George Smallwood and Sergeant at Arms Rich Hewitt.

Visitors Ray and Casandra Bell, from Albany, New York, were introduced by Frank Martin.  And the treasurer reported a hefty sum in the bank.

Under "Old Business" a lively debate followed on "The Villages Show", which led to a motion and vote to "go ahead" and produce the show again this year.  Greg Solomon reported that Magic Ian did a modified lecture for our young magicians in Ring 258 ½ in Ocala.

Under "New Business" a club picnic and fund raiser was proposed, with a committee of two, Jack Palumbo and George Smallwood, to report back to the club.  Our Buy/Sell/Trade annual "Flea Market" will take place on a Saturday in April or May.  Suggestion was made to include a lecture, as is done by other clubs, to make the event more appealing to area magicians.  Announcements were made concerning other upcoming magic lectures and conventions in the area.

The performing portion of the evening was themed "What I got for Christmas or the Gift Exchange".  "Stach" Golabek M.C.'d the evening and began with a shocking pen and raven.  Ana & Bill Fay performed "rope through neck" and "cut and restored rope" with "mental floss".  Dandy Dan demonstrated the "Handy Dandy Cake Machine"…producing ducks and "quackers".  Magic Ian did an awesome mis-made card routine.  Crowd Teaser Jim Moody performed a prediction of the last ball left in the bag.  "Circus Man" Bryan Weller entertained with a comedy card prediction.  Jack Palumbo "lost and found" a card, in a basket on the other side of the table!  Greg Solomon produced a 12 foot long silk streamer out of a previously empty hat!  Ed Moravetz performed "Dream Bag" producing silk handkerchiefs and flower arrangements.  "Sir Richard" Hewitt performed a "Bingo" card prediction.  And the closer, Magic Ian, performed a fantastic new rope routine that he is hoping to repeat on TV shortly.

The theme for our February 28th meeting is: "Black Art Magic – Demo – Perform"

     Respectfully Submitted,

Roger L. Reid, Secretary Ring #258
