In the absence of President Jim Moody, our March meeting was gaveled open at 7:01 PM, by Vice

President Magic Ian.   Guests introduced were Jordan Rivera - illusion builder, Bill Scott - IBM member

since 1974 and Jim Forsyth - "newbie".

The minutes of the February meeting were accepted with one correction.  There was "discussion of competition at the Daytona convention" at the Ring 258 ½ meeting, rather than actual competition.  Treasurer George Smallwood thanked everyone for their sympathy cards on the passing of his wife and   reported a treasury balance of $4782.00 after all business transacted in February.

Old Business – Magic Ian reported on the two upcoming shows at Laurel Manor and The Villages.  Laurel Manor, scheduled for 6:30 PM on Wed., April 2, is an "audition" show for potential fill-in performers for The Villages show.  Help is needed for move in/move out and back stage as there will be a very short move in period.  More information on this show contact Magic Ian at MagicIanS@aol.com.

The Villages shows, scheduled for Monday evening April 14, will also require a lot of help.  If not performing on stage or doing close-up in the lobby, all members of the club should be there to help with move in/move out" and back stage.  There have been some 400 tickets sold for both performances as of last Friday.  Tickets are available through a website.  Ian will e-mail everyone with the information.  The committee has decided to take additional newspaper ad's to help increase sales.  There will be TV interviews backstage at the Laurel Manor show that should translate into additional ticket sales.  A dance team will accompany Frank Martin's performance and help promote the shows.  In Frank Martin's absence, Cassandra asked for a lot of help with the move in/move out at The Villages show and suggested an "after party" when the shows wrap up.

New Business – Chris Dunn announced a 3 hour "David Ginn Children's Magic Workshop" to be held Sat., Apr. 26 at 10:00 AM in Orlando.  Cost is $35 in advance, $45 at the door.  David will give away $35 worth of books/effects to all participants.  The Ring 170 Banquet, scheduled for Saturday, April 19, 6:30 to 10:00 PM, $25 for dinner and show, including Terry Ward, Fred Moore, Giovanni and The Blues Brothers.  Contact Chris at youngdunns@yahoo.com or 407-808-5146 for details on both events.

Greg Solomon reported that Ring 258 ½ will have a lecture by Magic Ian on Sun., March 30.  Greg is also working all over the place with too many gigs to mention here.  Magic Ian will be doing a 3 lecture tour of Tennessee and Alabama Rings Apr. 18 – 21.  Dandy Dan is performing for the Faith Lutheran Ministers in Eustis this Saturday.  And Lee Langer, former owner of Balloon Box, reminded us that he will be doing a balloon lecture at the May 29th meeting.

The 50/50 raffle was won by Pete Fournier in the amount of $18!!!  There being no other formal business to be transacted the meeting was adjourned.

Show Time  - Theme – "Magic with a Message"

Eight performers stepped up this month.  Most were right on target with the theme.  Bill and Anna Marie Fay's message was "Conserve Lake County Water" with a bowl of water vanish!  Roger Reid showed a variety of methods of getting across your message, including 3 Card Monte, Roll-Out Wands and Spelling Bee.  Greg Solomon showed us how to solve difficult problems with the Window of Opportunity.  Tom "Stash" Golabek showed how he auditioned for a job as a black jack dealer by shuffling the deck many different ways.  But the message from the pit boss was "Get the Hell out of here!"  Prospective member Jordan Rivera used Professor's Nightmare to get across his message of "Equality".  Lee Langer showed a paper tear that resulted in the word "HELL" in individual letters and a "Cross" finale.  Andy Long did a nice ring and rope routine.   And Magic Ian closed the show with his new version of Professors Nightmare which changes to equal sized Linking Ropes.  Real Slick!

The show ended around 9:30 and everyone headed for home.

Respectfully submitted, Roger L. Reid, Secretary
