April Ring Minutes

Meeting Minutes – IBM Ring #258
Thursday, April 22, 2010

Due to a variety of circumstances, none of the Ring officers were able to attend the April 22nd Ring Meeting.  Roger Reid was designated, via e-mail, by acting President Bryan Weller, to run the meeting.  In the absence of the Secretary no one was willing to take notes so these minutes were written from memory a few days later.
Due to the absence of Committee Chairman Bryan Weller the 6:00 meeting scheduled to discuss a potential show in October, was not held.
There were no minutes posted from the March meeting so we were unable to discuss, approve or disapprove the minutes.  George Smallwood sent his Treasurer's report via Jim Moody.  The Ring bank balance is still in excess of $6,000.
Under new business Chris Dunn brought up the upcoming Chris Capehart lecture at Ring 170 and their upcoming banquet. (Cost $25 for dinner and show, to be held at the same location as their Auction/Flea Market.)  Ring 258 will also host Chris Capehart on MAY 13th at the Perkins Restaurant in Leesburg.
Roger Reid presented his "Got Milk?" lecture.  He performed a number of effects (vanishes, transpositions, appearances, etc.) that are possible with Milk Pitchers, Milk Tumblers and "Easy Come, Easy Go Glasses".  Then he explained the principles of Physics that make the effects possible and showed how the specially prepared items worked. He demonstrated how to make the insulated Pitchers and Tumblers into magic effects by drilling holes in special locations.  A number of those in attendance bought pitchers and tumblers, at deeply discounted prices, to convert in their home workshops.
We tried to move on to the evening's theme "Money Magic", but everyone preferred to play with their new toys and just discuss magic in general.  It was suggested that we carry over the "Money Magic" theme to the May 27th meeting.
The meeting broke up just before 9:00 PM.  Everyone had a good time!
     Respectfully Submitted,
     Roger L. Reid
     Acting Secretary (THIS TIME ONLY!)
