Minutes – IBM Ring #258, Thursday, December 29, 2011
The December Ring meeting: was held on the same evening as the "Holiday Party and Gift Exchange". There was a social hour beginning at 6:00 pm, during which the guests were given attendance prize tickets, numbers for the "Gift Exchange", a word puzzle, a chance to buy 50/50 tickets and a scavenger hunt to "Find the Elves". Dinner began at 7:00 with main course selections of stuffed pork chops, chicken parmesan and roast beef accompanied by assorted veggies and dessert. Excellent as in years past.
The short business portion of the meeting was held at 8:00 pm with the installation of officers for 2012 by Past President Dan Dyer. New officers are President Jim Moody, Vice President Roger Many and Treasurer George Smallwood. To date no one has volunteered to take the position of Secretary.
Immediately after the abbreviated business meeting, the show began with Terry Harris performing Chinese Sticks and a Bank Night routine. His helpers received scratch off lottery tickets for their invaluable assistance. Jim Moody did Cards Across with the aid of Karen Lyons and Don Taylor. Stash Golabeck arranged a Magic Trivia contest with teams of 6 people each. The contest included questions about Houdini and magic history.
Dan Dyer won $27 in the 50/50 raffle. A number of people won the "Find the Elves" and "Find the Word" contests. At 9:00 pm the "Gift Exchange" (and theft) began. The most coveted gifts were: a certificate to Bonefish Grill, a female magician doll, a Mickey Mouse magician wall hanging, and free dues to Ring 258 for the year 2012. There were also 10 "Attendance Prizes" and 8 center pieces given away. The event was enjoyed by all. Kudos to all those who helped organize and run the party!

A word from the Secretary: This will be my last set of minutes as I have stepped down from my multi-year tenure as Secretary. I hope I have done a good job for the Ring. It is my hope that one of the members who has not been all that active in the Ring will step forward and take on the position. I will be glad to assist the new Secretary in learning the ropes. It only requires about 2 hours of work per month. Those of you who do not participate by taking an office, performing at a meeting and/or in a public show are missing out on some of the best and most important aspects of our fraternity. It is my hope that many more members will be "involved" in the Ring in 2012. Happy New Year to All!
