November Minutes - Trying it the old way too!

Minutes – IBM Ring #258 – Thursday, November 20, 2014

President Jim Moody opened the meeting by introducing guest Bob Drake who has graced us with his presence two months in a row!
The Secretary's minutes were approved with spelling error corrections by editor Greg Solomon.  The Treasurer's report was approved with a balance of $3299.80 and 46 members.
Old Business
The "walk around" performance for the Shrine Christmas Party will be on Sat., Dec. 6, at the Shrine Hall, 424 Duncan Avenue, Tavares.  Performers should arrive between 11:00 and 11:15 in order to have time to "set up".
Lecture Chairman Greg Solomon reports the Fritz Alkemade lecture is all set for this coning Sun., Nov. 23, at 2:00 PM, at Mystic Ice Cream.  Ryan Schlutz is being considered for our first lecture of 2015.  That may be a "pay as you go" lecture as Ring funds to support free lectures are dwindling.
As mentioned at last month's meeting the magic collection of passed member "Skip" Waversak will be auctioned off tonight.
A motion was made by Lee Langer, and seconded by Chuck Smith, to change the name of IBM Ring #258 from "The Ken Krick Ring" to "The Magic Ian Ring".  The roster was checked to ensure we had a quorum at the meeting, which was so.  A vote was taken and approved unanimously to make the name change.  The Secretary will follow up with the International office by sending a copy of these minutes to make the name change official.  Ian's wife, Lyn Sutz, will be invited to the Ring Holiday Party.
We have a fund raising show scheduled on Fri., Mar. 20. 2015, at 7:00 PM, at Royal Highlands.  Those who wish to be on the bill, work close up in the lobby, work back stage, etc. should contact Jim Moody at crowdteaser@embarqmail.com.  We would like to get 100% participation of the membership as everyone benefits from the money generated by these shows.
New Business
Greg Solomon has acquired the magic collection of Mr. Bill Placko who passed on some time ago.  He will bring high quality effects in to future Ring meetings for sale.
The 50/50 raffle was won by Wendy Morris in the amount of $17!
After Meeting
The "after meeting" theme "The biggest turkey I should not have purchased" was put aside this evening and replaced by the auction of the magic collection of "Skip" Waversak.  There was some lively bidding on 14 lots (boxes, suitcases, briefcases, totes, etc.) of magic props, gimmicks, widgits, CD's, DVD's, etc.  The result of the auction was a check for $400 sent to Skip's widow.
     Respectfully submitted,
          Roger L. Reid
          Secretary, IBM Ring 258
