Boggy Creek

Ring #258 Visits Camp Boggy Creek

On successive Saturdays in January of 2007, members of I.B.M. Ring #258, The Lake County Magic Club, visited Camp Boggy Creek and donated magic workshops for campers, a one hour stage show for campers and staff and a monetary donation of $500. We would like to thank Camp Boggy Creek staff members Kimmy, Emily, Jackie and Dorkas for their invaluable help with our presentations.
In November, Camp Boggy Creek was chosen Ring #258’s official charity by a unanimous vote of the membership. Camp Boggy Creek, http://www.boggycreek.org/, located in Eustis, Florida, North of Orlando, serves children ages 7–15 and their families, who have illnesses such as cancer, asthma, epilepsy, spina bifida, sickle cell anemia, etc. The children served are those whose medical conditions would otherwise prevent them from attending camp.
The camp is specifically set up to accommodate children with various medical conditions. Each week/weekend serves a different medical issue. Summer sessions are one week long for campers only, while in the Fall, Winter and Spring there are family retreat weekends from Friday to Sunday. This “state of the art” residential camp includes a dining hall, theatre, gym, arts and crafts center, computer lab, medical facility, heated pool with wheel chair ramps, equestrian center, nature barn, ropes course, and 16 camper cabins all of which are air conditioned and built to ADA standards.
The members of Ring #258 intend to have an ongoing relationship with Camp Boggy Creek, donating our time, skills and funds, whenever possible and convenient for the camp staff. We are already working with the staff to be involved in their major fundraiser of the year which is a motor cycle ride from Camp to Daytona Beach. Members participating in the January events were: “Dandy” Dan Dyer, Bill Scavuzzo, Chris Dunn, Bob Kimmel, “Magic Ian” Sutz, George Smallwood, Richard Hewitt, Jim Moody and Roger “Foo Ling Yu” Reid.
