The Lake County Magic Association

www.Ring258.com , 4th Thur., 7:00 PM,

Meeting Place Changing Mo. to Mo., Call for Info.

Roger L. Reid, Secretary, bonzo1114a@aol.com, 321-945-7500

The meeting was opened by President Jim Moody at 7:00 PM, with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.  Guests were Donna and Donald Pierson, Judy Dunn, Jeff Markow, Don Taylor, Dan Stapleton and Scott Rosenfeld.

Jim announced the passing of Mike LaMonica's wife Florence, after a long illness.

Old Business

Jim re-appointed George Shield as Sergeant-at Arms and Librarian for 2011.

"The Florida Magic Newsletter" has been formed to link all Rings and Assemblies in Florida.  It is E-mailed monthly and shows a calendar of meetings, special events, contact information and meeting locations.  The Secretary will forward "The Newsletter" so members may add themselves to the list.

The Ring's 25th Anniversary Year began Oct. 1, 2010.  The first event was the show at Congregation Sinai in Minneola.  The show went well despite poor working conditions.

The Holiday Party was excellent and lot's of fun, through the efforts of Jim & Linda Moody, Wally & Sue Libenson and George Smallwood.  We do it again on Thur., Dec. 29.

The Ring will do a Mar. 4, fund raiser show with the Ft. King Middle School Band.  We will perform in a 900 seat auditorium at the old Forest High School.  Greg and Connie Solomon are taking care of posters, tickets and advertising all over the Ocala area.

New Business

We are still in the hunt for a permanent meeting place.  Capt. Bells was "adequate" but the room has limitations.  It was agreed to try nearby "Legends" for our Feb. meeting.  (Legends, 3430 Hwy. 441, Fruitland Park, FL 34731 Ph. 352-728-0006)  Our meeting location has been changing monthly.  Visiting magicians call ahead for meeting location, 321-945-7500.

Jim suggested the purchase of a sound system for Ring shows, at a cost of between $500 and $1,000.  The unit would have an amplifier, speakers, CD player, MP3 compatibility, etc.  Discussion was tabled until next month after some research is done.

The names of Mark Mason and Michael Amaar were discussed for spring lectures.  Lecture chairman Wally Libenson will work on booking both.

Greg Solomon liked last month's "product review" by Bill Fay.  He suggested that reviews of newly purchased magic be done by members each month, good or bad.

Chris Dunn showed an effect from the DVD "Miracles for Mortals".  You draw a picture of a radio on a 3 x 5 card.  When the drawn switch is turned on the radio actually works!

Dan Stapleton announced a special event on Mar. 11.  The S.A.M. National Council will have its winter meeting in Orlando.  Assembly #99 will put on "An Evening of Magic and Dinner" at the Radisson Resort, in Kissimmee.  The $25 ticket entitles you to a 3 course dinner and show performed by Bev Bergeron, Dan Stapleton, Phillip Kaiser and Nathan Coe Marsh.  You must purchase tickets in advance.  Call Craig Schwarz at 407-491-3287 for info.

Chris Dunn emceed our after meeting entertainment.  The theme was "What I got at the Holiday Party or for Christmas."  Wally Libenson, with the aid of Anna Marie Fay, performed "The Book of Facts", a divination of numbers, colors and suits in a shuffled packet of cards.  Magic Ian correctly named a selected card in "Pocket Insurance Policy" with the aid of a very special pen.  (Available through Magic Ian, or your dealer)  Roger Reid displayed "Vanishing Point".  A ball placed on a small platform, covered by a playing card, vanished when the card was removed!  He also performed Czechoslovakian magic for his Polish friend Stash, where black and white handkerchiefs became "Czechs".  Dan Stapleton performed "Piano" also named "Silver Sorcery" by Jim Steinmeyer.  Stash Golabeck, Poland's Greatest Magician, self levitated prior to paying Poland's 2nd Greatest Magician, with used lottery tickets.  And "Santa" Abernathy showed his new friend Roxie, who was fun until she bit him and then "bit the dust".

Respectfully Submitted,   Roger L. Reid,   Secretary (Again, Again and Again!)
