Ring 258 Meeting Minutes
Thursday, August 23, 2012

Due to the fact that President Jim Moody was not present, the meeting was opened at 7:00 p.m. by Vice President Roger Many.  The club was led in the Pledge of Allegiance by Greg Solomon.  Our guests tonight were Gene and Fran Shusman of Philadelphia.  Gene is the brother of member Myrna Smith.    George Shield, our Sargent-at-Arms and Librarian will be having hip replacement surgery on Monday, August 28, 2012.  The July minutes were approved and accepted.  The July Treasury report was read by George Smallwood and accepted as read.
The Club is scheduled to participate in the Camp Boggy Creek Bike Run on Sunday, October 7, 2012.  Arrival time is 10:30 a.m.  Anyone who wishes to do some close-up should contact Roger Reid at bonzo1114a@aol.com.  There will be a lecture by Geoff Williams on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m at the Leesburg Best Western.
Terry Harris has very graciously volunteered to chair the Holiday Party with the very gracious help of Wally Libenson.  All Club members should register with Wally.  He can be reached at 352-391-1670 or wlibenson@hotmail.com.  The party will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the American Legion on CR466 and Rolling Acres Road.  Party will start at 6:00 p.m.
Bryan Weller proposed that we do a show for the South Sumter Middle School in April 2013.  The Band Director for the school will be attending one of our monthly meetings to discuss the details.   The club will be having a lecture by Meir Yedid on Sunday, October 7, 2012.  Due to a conflict with the Boggy Creek Bike Run on the same day, Ian Sutz will be checking to see if we can move the lecture to 4:00 p.m.   Magic Ian brought fellow magician Glen Hester as a guest.  Glen is from Atlanta and is known for his "Police Magic".  Glen teaches on street cons, swindles etc. and also teaches children on doing the "right thing".
Tonights "Show and Tell" was presented by Wayne Hughes on the Chop Cup.  Greg Solomon was the M.C. for tonights show.  The theme was Silk Magic.  David Lyons and Company started the show with a silk thru rope penetration followed by a color changing silk thru hand, from red to green to yellow and back to red.  Next was Myrna Smith performing a card routine with having a card selected, returned to the deck, a nut and bolt put thru the deck and then pulling the card out from under a silk.
Chuck Smith did a very funny version of the 20th Century Silks.
Terry Harris then did a great version of Silkola, followed by Magic Ian who did his terrific version of PepSilkola.  Roger Reid wrapped things up with a change bag routine.  Meeting was adjourned by Vice President Roger Many at 9:15 p.m.
