July 2012 minutes

Ring 258 Meeting Minutes
Thursday, July 26, 2012

The meeting was opened at 7:00 p.m. by President Jim Moody.  The club was led in the Pledge of Allegiance by Chris Dunn.  Racheal and Taylor Schoop were our guests tonight.  Jim Moody informed the club that member Bob Brant had heart surgery and is recovering fine.   The June minutes were approved and accepted.  The Treasury report was read and accepted.  There were no new members.
The club will not be participating at Boggey Creek this year, however, we will be back next year.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, our lecturer on Sunday,  August 26, 2012 will be Geoff Williams.  This will take place at the Best Western Hotel, Leesburg, Florida at 2:00 p.m.
We will also be having a lecture at the Best Western on Sunday, October 7, 2012 by Meir Yedid.  Magic Ian will be making all the arrangements.  A vote was taken to keep the meeting night on the 4th Thursday of each month except for November which will be the 3rd Thursday of the month.  Vote was passed.  There will be no flea market this year.
Wally and Sue Libenson reported on the Blackpool Convention.  They attended the Magic Circle meeting, made a stop at Davenport's Magic Shop.  The convention guide was passed around for all of us to look at.  Wally and Sue really enjoyed the lectures.    The club received an email from Mike Martin (407-574-4785) looking for Kid Show Entertainers for "Give Kids the World".  This is located in Kissimmee, Florida, on Bass Lane about a mile and half from I-4.  Anyone interested, please give Mike a call.  A big welcome back to members Terry Harris and Pete Fournier.  Terry Harris reviewed and performed his new "Key Ring Flite".  A good effect and Terry gave it a favorable review.
Lee Langer will check on the date of December 27, 2012, for the holiday show.  Meeting was then adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
Magic Ian did tonight's "Show and Tell" with the Steel Ball and Tube effect.   Magic Ian took one of those props that we all have in a drawer somewhere and showed us some terrific effects.  If you get a chance to see him lecture, be sure and ask him to show this to you.  He has also written a terrific pamphlet on this effect.
Chris Dunn was our M.C. for tonight's after meeting show.
The amazing Racheal Schoop started us off with the transposition of a mouse from one miniature square circle to another.  Roger Reid was next performing a vanishing and appearing red silk.  The Amazing Tom Golabek, assisted by Myrna, vanished a tie from a bag only to have it appear on a spectator in the audience.  Roger Many switched a five dollar bill and a one dollar bill in a spectator's hand.  Magic Ian vanished a red silk into a spectator's wallet.  He then did a great cards across routine.  Bryan Weller performed a chop cup routine.  Greg Solomon did a clever effect with cards printed with haunted houses and a ghost.  The ghost card was clipped between the haunted house cards, vanished, and appeared in his pocket.  Jim Moody did an excellent sponge ball routine with a spectator.  Chris Dunn then did his version of a sponge ball vanish???  Greg Solomon performed one more effect called Deception.  The 50-50 was won by Wayne Dowling.  Meeting ended at 9:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Wayne Hughes
