Ring 258 Meeting Minutes
Thursday, October 25, 2012
The meeting was opened at 7:00 p.m. by President Jim Moody. The Club was led in the Pledge of Allegiance by Wayne Dowling. We had Taylor Schoop and Josh Gair as our guests. The September Minutes were approved. The Treasury report was read and accepted. Eight club members went to Camp Boggey Creek on October 7, 2012 to perform Table Magic. Pictures and the whole story will appear in a future issue of the Linking Ring. A donation to Camp Boggey Creek has been postponed until the summer of 2013. The Club has decided to continue the Camp Boggey Creek "teach-in". The following names were brought up for future lectures for the Club, Cameron Francis, Murray Hatfield, Matthew Wright and Dan Harlan. More information on these lectures will be discussed at our November meeting.
The Meir Yedid lecture on October 7, 2012 was very well recieved by the members. Our Holiday Party scheduled for December 29, 2012, is going exactly as planned. Wally Libenson can be contacted for tickets. December 10, is the deadline for refunds. Wally is also going to find out if the magic club in The Villages would like to come to our party. Our Holiday Show for the Jewish Temple normally done in December might be moved to the Spring season. Further information will be presented and discussed at the November meeting. Ring 258 election night was held tonight. The following slate of officers were voted in for the year 2013. President - Jim Moody, Vice President - Greg Solomon, Secretary - Skip Waversak, Treasurer - George Smallwood.
Our Meeting night for the month of November has been moved to the 15th due to Thanksgiving. Ring 258 is very proud to have 1 of our members with a published item in the October issue of the Linking Ring. Roger Reid has his "You Must Be Drinking" card effect on page 89. We also have member Tom Golabek with his novel Maddog available on Amazon. The 50-50 was won by Jim Moody and the effect "B.S. Board" was won by Chris Dunn. Next month's theme will be Suspension or Levitation. Wayne Dowling was our M.C. for tonight's show which featured "Stage or Platform" magic. Meeting was closed at 8:00 p.m.
Tonight's "Show and Tell" was Sponge Balls and done by Jim Moody. Jim did an excellent job teaching this and a Benson Bowl routine. Our theme show was opened by Wally Libenson with the 6 card repeat. Wally then teamed up with Tom Golabek and an effect they called Polish Prediction. A very strong mental effect with cards that fooled everyone in the club. George Sheild then did the Flip Over Box. Roger Reid did the Eygptian Screen. Brad Weller did his Iphone in the Balloon. Bryon Weller performed a prediction effect with a tossed out balloon. Skip Waversak did an envelope prediction using 2 spectators and 3 different colored envelopes. George Smallwood did a prediction using ESP cards and 3 spectators. Magic Ian did his Linking Ring routine. Greg Solomon finished up the show with a Lie Detector Card routing and then did a prediction using a marketed item called "Clued In". Greg did a great job and this is a great trick.
Respectfully submitted
