Report of Ring #258 – Thursday, June 24, 2010

The Lake County Magic Club – The Ken Krick Ring

4th Thursday of the month, 7:00 PM,

Denny's, Rts. 27 & 441, Leesburg, FL

Roger L. Reid, Secretary, bonzo1114a@aol.com, 321-945-7500

Because of tonight's "Dealer Demo", this month's meeting was held in a private room, at the Best Western Hotel, rather than our usual meeting place, which is open to prying eyes,

President Jim Moody opened the meeting by introducing guests Sean Grey, Al Stone, and Gary Adams, a Ring 170 visitor.

Old Business

The Aldo Colombini lecture engendered lots of interest and applause.  Rachel is recovering from her illnesses.  The club made a $100 donation to help pay for her medical expenses.  Lybrary.com is offering to make a donation to the Rachel Fund if you purchase a book from their site.

The Tampa convention was attended by Jim Moody, George Smallwood, John Trenkle, Magic Ian, Chris Dunn and more.  The event was well organized and the lectures were well received.  The "Dealers Room" was more of a flea market with only one real dealer, Daytona Magic.

Our next "Magic Teach In" at Camp Boggy Creek will be held on Friday, July 9.  Volunteers for that date are George Smallwood, Marty Scott, Wally Libenson, Chuck Smith, Lee Langer, Bill Scott, Jim Moody, Santa and Roger Reid.  An article and pictures of the event will be submitted to the Linking Ring.

New Business

George Smallwood has volunteered his home to be the site of our Annual Summer Picnic.  The date and further details will be forthcoming.

A lecture, featuring South African magician Trevor Duffy, has been scheduled for Sunday, August 15.  Time and location has yet to be determined.

The business meeting was kept to a minimum so that we could move on to the evening's event: A Dealer Demo by Mr. Harry Allen and Aaron of Daytona Magic.

Harry did not disappoint!  He had 10 tables full of magic equipment, effects and supplies.  In less than seventy-five minutes, with the aid of his assistant Aaron and our own Myrna Smith,   Harry performed, demonstrated and/or explained the workings of more than 40 magic effects, ranging in price from $10 to $1500, while hitting us with comedy lines all through the demo!

Some of the effects that stood out were:  "Spoon to Fork" (perfect for restaurant workers), "Brief Case to 2 Liter Bottle", "Knot So Fast" (Boo Ya!), "Stop, Stop", "Quick Change", "Body Levitation", "Predict a Square Circle", "ESP 360", "Prediction Pendant", "Head Twister", etc.

The evening closed with Harry trying to sell everything so he didn't have to pack it all up!

     Respectfully Submitted,

Roger L. Reid, Secretary (again), Ring 258
