Denny's, Rts. 27 & 441, Leesburg, FL

President Jim Moody introduced guests, George West (who joined tonight) Matthew Abernathy (Santa's son) and young Noah and John Carragher. Guest magicians are always welcome!
Jim Moody was contacted by the wife of deceased magician Keith Doll. She wanted to sell his entire magic collection, which was purchased for $250. Jim and George Smallwood have cataloged everything and will e-mail the list to all members. Ring members will have first chance at the collection before it is included in our Fall Flea Market/Auction/Lecture which is in the process of being organized. Wally Libenson will present potential dates and lecturers for discussion at the August meeting. The location will be the Days Inn on RT 27 at the FL Turnpike entrance.
Nine members of Ring 258 returned to Camp Boggy Creek on Monday, July 12 for another "Teach-In". Each magician performed and then taught one or two effects to two groups of campers battling cancer. All campers were given props and instructions necessary to learn and perform the effects. Teachers were Magic Ian Sutz, Roger Reid, Marty Scott, Lee Langer, George Smallwood, Wally Libenson, Chuck Smith and Jim Moody. Ring photographer "Santa" Abernathy made a record of the event. An article and photos have been sent to the Special Events editor at The Linking Ring.
Harry Allen's Daytona Magic Dealer Demo was very well received. He literally brought a truckload of props, tables and effects and demonstrated almost all of it!
Wally & Sue Libenson attended the SAM convention in
Our Greg Solomon will be opening for Trevor Duffy at "Wizards". Trevor will be our guest lecturer on Sunday, August 15 at 3:00 PM at the Best Western Hotel on RT 27/441 behind "Ramshackles".
Our after meeting entertainment theme, "Mentalism", was emceed by Chris Dunn. Resident Polish Magician "Stash" led off with a random selection of an assistant, using a "urine bottle". He asked the assistant to select a number between 1 and 1 million. When the prediction envelope was opened it was "Exactly the same number"! Wally "The Wonder" Libenson performed "I have no idea", "It's Over", "Zendo Zycho" and came back at the end of the evening to do "Trio" (correctly). Emcee Chris Dunn first did "Clairvoyance" and closed by reading a word from a folded piece of paper with the aid of an invisible spirit. Chuck Smith performed "Any Card at Any Number". George Smallwood performed "Teleportation", reassembling parts of torn dollar bills and then mentally attained the telephone number of a spectator. Young guest Noah Carragher, demonstrated "Snap Bag" and "Cups and Balls". Roger Reid had a spectator send a mental image of a card into a picture frame. It worked, but slowly. President Jim Moody showed us "Lips" and the "Tossed Out Deck". Warren Wotton did a hypnotic effect called "Crap". And our newest member, George West, closed the show with "Braudes Mental Card Trick" from John Scarne's book. A great time was had by all.
