President Jim Moody introduced guests Jack and "Joanie" Arias, Wayne Dowling, Judy Dunn and Dan Stapelton. Lenn "Duckie" Lamoureux has returned from his back surgery.
Jim presented a magic wand to our newest/youngest member Noah Carragher and showed the newly redesigned "New Ring Member Package".
Old Business
The Ring Picnic, at George Smallwood's home, was a great success, with excellent food, games and trivia contests. Members reviewed and bought items from the Keith Doll magic collection recently acquired by the officers. George has offered to use his home for next year's picnic.
We received a "Thank You" letter from Camp Boggy Creek for our "teach-in" in July. The "Bruce Rossmeyer Ride for the Children" will take place on Sun., Oct. 10, 2010. Our members will do "table to table" magic for the bikers during lunch. The Ring will donate $500 to the Camp at "The Ride".
New Business
We are approaching the 25th anniversary of the formation of Ring 258, Oct. 1, 1986, which is the date our Charter was issued by the I.B.M. It was decided to celebrate by having a number of events beginning Jan. 1, 2011 and culminating in Magic Week on Oct. 31, 2011. Lee Langer was made Committee Chairman by acclaim!
Greg Solomon reported that Aaron's
Wally Libenson was published in "The Villages South" newspaper with a nice article and photo's.
The theme for Sept. is "The Seven Principles of Magic". Each member should come prepared to demonstrate one of the principles.
Magic Ian received a beautiful plaque from the I.B.M. in appreciation for his "One Man Parade" published in the June, 2009 issue of The Linking Ring.
Jim has rebooked the hall at Royal Highlands for our
Dan Stapleton announced a change at the upcoming (Nov. 5 – 7)
The after meeting entertainment was emceed by Roger Reid. The theme was "Bag Magic".
Wally Libenson led off with a book test that he took out of a bag. After his first try at naming the selected word Wally said… "It's over". Better luck next month Wally. Lee Langer used his egg bag to produce a deck of cards from nowhere and then found the selected card. Roger Reid used a custom designed bag to tell the story of a sad clown who was made "Happy" after the rainbow came out. The Unknown Polish Magician (bag over head) hit us with every line ever done about bags (you had to be there) and then correctly identified a number selected between 1 and 1 million. Rich Hewitt and new member Wayne Dowling presented "Danger Monte" with a broken glass bottle under the paper bag. Rich ended up with a band aid. Jim Moody gave a "Questions and Answers" session from a plastic bag. Some how the women in the audience always got the easy questions! Greg Solomon opened a little draw string bag, took out his plastic cups and balls, and did a nicely choreographed routine to the nursery rhyme "Rub–a-dub-dub, Three men in a tub." Zany Meany demonstrated his "Gozinta Bag" which changed colors over and over, until he got the right color for a gift to his wife. Noah Carragher presented "Snap Bag" and produced 3 balls from nowhere. Chuck Smith made a great attempt at "The Fumbling Card Trick", but to no avail. Guest Dan Stapleton did a beautiful torn and restored card in bag. George Smallwood presented LeWoogie's Card Prediction. George West worked very hard at "The Almost Chip Trick" and almost did it! The evening closed with Marty Scott producing a bunch of "spring" animals, in paper cocoons, from her change bag.
There were fourteen (14) performers this night, wow! Next month everyone will perform. Be prepared for a late night!
Respectfully submitted, Roger L. Reid, Secretary, Ring 258 (Again!)
