November Ring Report

Our Nov. meeting was held in Dec., due to the Nov. meeting date falling on Thanksgiving.  The first order of business was to note that the Ring sent a get well card and flower arrangement to Florence LaMonica, wife of Mike, who underwent complicated surgery recently.  She is recovering at home.

     Old Business

The Ring flea market/auction/lecture held Sun., Nov. 14, gave 15 vendors a chance to show their magic wares and 50 or so visitors a chance to buy and/or bid at the auction.  Thanks to auctioneer Bryan Weller and Dan Stapleton, who provided a fine lecture.

Ring members who performed walk around magic at the "Bruce Rossmeyer Ride for the Children" at Camp Boggy Creek received personal "Thank You" letters from the camp director.

The Ring fund raiser, part of our 25th anniversary celebration, at Congregation Sinai in Clermont, will take place on Tue., evening Dec. 28.  Performers are Jim Moody, Chris Dunn, Roger Reid, Magic Ian, Dan Dyer, Wally Libenson and Aaron Solomon.  Greg Solomon and Lee Langer will perform close up in the lobby.

     New Business

President Moody suggested saying the "Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag" at the beginning of every Ring meeting.  There being no objection we will begin the practice at the Dec. meeting.

A "Florida Magic Newsletter" has been established by Mark Allen and was sent to the Ring officers.  It contains contact information, meeting locations and a calendar of all I.B.M. and S.A.M. meetings and special events.  If you are interested in visiting other organizations contact markalanmagic1@yahoo.com and ask to be put on the mailing list.

Greg Solomon has obtained another fund raising opportunity for the Ring.  We will work with the Fort King Middle School Band Boosters, and put on a show entitled "Music and Magic" on Fri., Mar. 4, 2011.

The after meeting entertainment themed: "My Biggest Turkey", was M.C.'d by Roger Reid.

First up was "Mr. Extraordinaire" Chuck Smith who reprised "The Fumbling Card Trick" to get it right this time.  And he did!  He named all the cards held by two spectators, while blind folded!  M.C. Roger Reid interpreted the theme a little differently.  He displayed a computer generated likeness of a turkey, placed it in a "turkey pan" (duck pan) and produced a large stuffed "Turkey"!  Jim Moody performed "Card-O-Graphic" a rising card effect on a sketch pad and "Your Favorite Store", both of which he felt were "Turkeys" and were up for sale to the highest bidder.  Bill Faye did a "Consumer Alert" on an effect he purchased from Hank Lee.  The effect, called "Good Vibrations" was one of those that promised a miracle but delivered "a Turkey".  It was a $75, magnetic, "find the selected item" effect which worked poorly and did not "deliver the goods".  The Masked Magician, "Stash" Golabeck, did a hilarious rant on his worst Turkey "The Masked Magician's Dart Board".  Treasurer George Smallwood performed one of Harry Lorayne's memory effects called "Master Memory", which left many wondering "How did he do it?"  It was not such a Turkey!  And George West closed the show with the old standard "Find the Queen" by having spectators attach a paper clip to a fan of cards and never getting it right!

Respectfully Submitted, Roger L. Reid, Secretary (Again, Again & Again)
