Old Business

The Ocala fund raiser finally generated some press with an article in the Ocala Star-Banner on Sun., Apr. 10, including photos of performers Greg Solomon and Roger Reid.

As soon as the new Entertainment Director at Camp Boggy Creek is in place, he/she will be in touch to schedule dates for us to work with the campers, perform and/or attend the fall "Bike Ride".

As a result of our performance at Congregation Sinai, part of our 25th Anniversary Year, we have been invited to perform again, sponsored by The Women's Club.

     V. P. & Lecture Chairman Wally Libenson has booked Jay Scott Berry to lecture at our Magic Day on Sat., Nov. 12, 2011, in conjunction with our Flea Market and Auction.

The Ring 258 Summer Picnic will again be held at the beautiful home of George Smallwood on Sun., July 17, 2011.  There will be lots of food, games, magic, fun and surprises!

New Business

Member Jeff Markow has opened an ice cream store called "Mystic" at 1217 Rt. 466A in Fruitland Park.  He has special ice cream flavors and "frozen wine desserts".  He will bring samples to the picnic!  Please stop by when you are in the area!

After some discussion the membership approved doing a fund raiser at the newly renovated civic theatre in Mt. Dora, on Oct. 29, the Sat. before Halloween during "Magic Week".  We will have the responsibility for all the publicity and ticket sales in addition to producing the show/s.  Greg Solomon suggested we include Bill and Anna Marie Fay's Alzheimer's Helpers, Inc., organization as a partner in the event.

Our next meeting is on Thu., May 26, theme: "Magic With Jumbo or Giant Playing Cards."

Magic Lee Langer emceed the evenings' after meeting entertainment theme: "Vanish".

First up was Dandy Dan Dyer who performed The Tea Vanish in a brass cylinder and then in a dollar bill!  Guest Terry Harris made pieces of paper vanish turning them into a variety of denominations, sizes and monies of various countries.  Jim Moody teased everyone with a bottle of champagne which vanished when put in a paper bag and crumpled up.  Roger Reid demoed the Flash Silk Vanish and the Flash Coin Vanish, two of the fastest vanishes ever.  Brian Weller vanished his clown nose and had it reappear in a variety of permutations.  Stash "The Polish Crowd Teaser" Golabeck did a take off of someone (?) else's routine.  The beautiful and talented Myrna Smith caused a chosen card to vanish from the deck and reappear in a backpack across the room!  Chuck Smith (no relation) caused the entire contents of a shaker of salt to vanish and no one could figure it out!  Terry Harris reappeared to demonstrate the "one ahead principle" using props gathered from the dinner tables.  Very resourceful!

     Respectfully submitted, Roger L. Reid
