September Minutes

Minutes – IBM Ring #258

Thursday, September 22, 2011

President Jim Moody opened the meeting by passing around a greeting card, brought in by Dandy Dan Dyer, for the members to sign and send to past member Bob Hayes.  Bob's wife is writing a book on his magic life and would appreciate anyone in the Ring who knows Bob to contact her with stories and/or information.

The Secretary's minutes were approved as e-mailed.  The Treasurer's report showed a balance of $4688.06 at the end of August, with 53 members.

Old Business

Camp Boggy Creek – Our next event will be on Sun., Oct. 9, 2011, the Bruce Rossmeyer Ride for the Children".  We will be doing close-up magic at the tables while the riders eat lunch provided by Outback Steakhouse.  No one signed up at this month's meeting to participate in this event and it's only 2 ½ weeks away!!!.  Please contact me ASAP at bonzo1114a@aol.com if you would like to volunteer.

Lectures – Wally reports Alan Sands on Sun., Oct. 2nd, Bill Wisch for our Nov. 12 Flea Market – Auction – Lecture and on a date to be determine in April, David Acer and Richard Sanders.

Sound System – The system was purchased last month.  Jim has added some features to it already,

Les has donated some cables and microphones and the club has purchased a cart for the system.

Survey – There was a low response to Chuck Smith's survey last month.  We will wait for more returns before analyzing the data.

Mt. Dora Show – The show committee voted to let Bryan Weller handle the marketing, advertising and promotion of the show.  "Coupons" and Posters have been prepared to blanket Mt. Dora and surrounding areas.  On Fri., Oct. 28 we will have a tent in Donnelly Park dispensing "coupons" to everyone attending the Halloween event in the Park Building.  And we will also do a promotional "gag" at the municipal theatre, the same night, prior to the showing of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show".  We will need help at both locations that evening.  Ian will prepare a promotional DVD for a possible TV spot.  Stage   performer are: Roger Reid (Foo Ling Yu), Jim Moody, Dandy Dan Dyer, Magic Ian (The Professor), Bryan Weller, George Smallwood and Terry Harris.  Performers on the show need to send Ian a list of the "effects" they plan to perform.  Roger Reid will prepare "Sold Out" signs in hopes that we need to use them.

IMPORTANTWe need help from all members of the Ring and some of the wives to make this event happen!  We need a number of back stage workers, ticket sellers and takers, lobby close-up magicians, "follow spot" worker, someone(s) for food and drink for the "green room", etc.  Please contact Jim Moody at crowdteaser@embarqmail.com and let him know what spot you would like to fill.

New Business

Elections - The Oct. meeting is "Election Night".  Nominations will come from the floor.  Please begin thinking about who you would like to nominate and/or if you would like to run for a position.

Review – Chris Dunn purchased "Bob Swadling's Coin Box" from an estate sale auction run by Daytona Magic.  He got it for only $18 with two "gimmicked" coins, in perfect condition, priced well below real value.

Doc Eason Workshop – The excellent Workshop, held at the home of Chris Dunn, was "sold out" with a waiting list.

Theme - Next month's theme will be "Halloween and/or Holiday Magic".

50/50 – The 50/50 was won (again) by George Smallwood in the amount of $12. (Fix?)

After Meeting Entertainment

The after meeting theme "My Favorite Effect" was emceed by Wally Libenson.  First up was George Smallwood who presented the "Enchanted Ring".  Emcee Wally followed by producing an 8 foot tall magic wand from a small bag.  Stash Golabeck tried a Polish escape, but he couldn't.  Roger Reid performed "Hippy Hop Rabbits" and then levitated "Trix".  Dandy Dan Dyer put Roxie in a "Zig Zag" and pulled out her middle!  Jim Moody made cards change places in Myrna's hands with "Vice-Versa" and then cut and restored ropes.  Magic Ian closed the show with "Ball and Tube" on which he has literally written the book!

Respectfully Submitted, Roger L. Reid, Secretary, Ring #258 (Again, Again, Again...)
